ABOUT US

On April 17, 2017 the world became just a little kinder, just a little more joyful when Charlotte Joy Scalese was born. As she grew Charlotte’s personality of fun, kindness, and mischief captured us all! She had the kind of smile that says she loves life... and she knows something you don’t.

A week before her second birthday Charlotte was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Neuroblastoma. Through more than a year of hell on earth between stem-cell transplants, chemo, surgeries, radiation, blood transfusions, immunotherapy and more, Charlotte’s inner strength - a manifestation of God’s healing Grace - were revealed in her amazing fight to live.

And we experienced a miracle… by her third birthday Charlotte Joy was healed and pronounced in remission! Praise God!!!

Two short years later, we got bad news… Charlotte’s cancer had returned and spread. Once again, Charlotte displayed God’s steely strength as she fought this disease not only with bravery, but still living out the calling of her middle name… Joy!

On June 23, 2023, after defying all odds for more than four years, Charlotte Joy lost her battle and graduated to heaven. She is now living a joyful, care-free life with God!

About a month before Charlotte passed her aunt Kimberly, whom Charlotte calls “Mimi” was going to donate platelets, which almost always go to cancer patients. Kimberly is scared of injections. Charlotte has had hundreds of them and calls them “a pinch.”

Before donating, Mimi face-timed Charlotte and asked, “Charlotte, Mimi’s going to get a pinch, what should I do?”

Charlotte said, “Mimi… JUST BREATHE!”

Just breathe…

It’s become a mantra. A battle cry. A coping mechanism. And a wonderful motto to live by.

We created “Just Breathe” (who’s logo is Charlotte’s handwriting) to financially support The Ashley Lauren Foundation who helps and uplifts the families of children with cancer. Half of all Just Breathe profits go directly to the Ashley Lauren Foundation.

Thank you for being a supporter and a beautiful part of the solution!
